Did you know that your nutrition and health go together. Hmmm let’s see. Good nutrition is essential for a healthy body , healthy mind and overall quality of life . When you are out of balance in either of these areas we start to develop health issues. That’s why it’s important to keep healthy habits such as eating a balanced diet and keeping fit by exercising.
What’s a balanced diet?
Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables , lean proteins , whole -grain carbohydrates and healthy fats while limiting added sugars , sodium and trans fats leads you towards having a balanced diet. Of course let’s not forget our 8 glasses of water in a day. You may be wondering how do I keep to this strict uninteresting diet. I don’t like fruits or veggies , neither do I like whole – grain carbohydrates . You could make it interesting by blending the fruits and veggies you have available into a smoothie. This can replace your bottle of juice. Remember all carbs are not equal. We have simple carbs and complex carbs. Your body
needs carbs for fuel. In this case look for complex carbs like starches and fiber which contain more vitamins and minerals than simple carbs.
Fiber is your friend
There are two types of fiber – soluble and insoluble . Soluble fiber can help lower glucose and cholesterol levels, while insoluble fiber can help move food through the digestive tract promoting bowel health and regularity. Grow strong with protein
Protein is present in every cell in the human body. It is composed of amino acids which are important building blocks of bones, muscles, cartilage and skin .
Choose wisely with fat
Everyone needs fat in their diet.
Monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats are considered healthy fats and can have positive impact on health when consumed in moderation . Foods with healthy fats are avocados, nuts, seeds , cold-water fatty fish and cold-pressed oils.
